KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 (Bernama) — The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) does not expect the review of several projects linked to China’s state-owned enterprises to affect the bilateral trade between both countries. In fact, its Exports Promotion and Market Access Division Senior Director, Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said he believed the relevant issues would be addressed accordingly by the government at the political level.

KUALA LUMPUR: Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Bhd (Exim Bank) will soon be placed under the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) alongside SME Bank Malaysia. Exim Bank is an agency under the purview of the Finance Ministry while SME Bank is already under Miti.

KUANTAN, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) need to collaborate with local institutions of higher learning (IPTs) to enable them to brace technologies in order to be more competitive in the face of the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0).

Malaysian Technology Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (MTDC) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Nurhalim Yunus said better technology adoption through the collaboration would enable SMEs to improve their productivity and efficiency.

SERDANG, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- The government is looking at tabling the supplementary budget next week, said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. “We will look at that,” said Dr Mahathir when asked by reporters if the government would be tabling the supplementary budget next week after visiting an art exhibition 'Tun M: A Forever Legacy' at the Perdana University here today.

Malaysia's labour force grows 2.4% in Q2

KUALA LUMPUR: The labour force in Malaysia increased 2.4% to 15.28 million persons in the second quarter of 2018, as compared to the same quarter in 2017. "The employed persons also recorded an increased of 2.4 per cent in the same period to 14.77 million persons," said Datuk Sri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin, Chief Statistician of the Department of Statistics, Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: MIDF Research said the re-implementation of the Sales and Services Tax (SST) will not deter domestic consumption in Malaysia.  “As compared to GST, SST does not affect consumers directly, but via manufacturer and service provider.  “Solid economic fundamentals in the Malaysian economy particularly the stable labour market, moderating inflationary pressure and upbeat industrial activity will continue support the domestic demand to stay robust,” the research house said on Friday.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- The Entrepreneur Development Ministry will implement a rationalisation process on all agencies engaging with entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to avoid duplication and financial wastage as well as reduce bureaucracy.  Deputy Minister Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli said the establishment of Bumiputera entrepreneur development units in all ministries had seen the creation of 120,625 Bumiputera entrepreneurs from 2014-2017 or 30,000 a year “In 2015, out of 920,624 local SMEs, 354,699 or 38.5 per cent were Bumiputera companies.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The Government will increase the annual sales threshold for eligibility to register for the Sales Tax to RM500,000 annually under the Sales and Tax Service Tax (SST) from RM100,000 previously. Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the annual turnover threshold of RM500,000 would also apply to manufacturers who carried out sub-manufacturing activities, for which the annual sales threshold was at RM20,000 before.
