KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) is expanding its network and resources with the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with five Industry 4.0 related partners. Chief Executive Officer Datuk Norhalim Yunus said the five agencies were in addition to another group called Myedtech Community which MTDC signed with earlier, and would be the corporation’s key partners towards its Industry 4.0 initiatives.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- Manufacturing firms can no longer reap the same yields as in previous decades if they continue to rely on capital and labour as productivity levers. Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said a readiness to adapt to the Industry 4.0 Revolution would have a bearing on economic success and Malaysia needs to quickly embrace it to propel productivity and further enhance competitiveness.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) – The government is committed to empowering the cooperative movement, spearheaded by the Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission, to enable the sector to become the third biggest contributor to the economy. Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Datuk Wira Dr. Mohd Hatta Ramli said with 14,000 cooperatives in the country comprising six million members and total assets of more than RM140 billion, this aspiration was not impossible to realise.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) aims to increase the value of furniture exports by producing more high quality and value-added products, as the industry gradually shifts to own design manufacturing (ODM) and own brand manufacturing (OBM) production lines.  MTIB Director-general Datuk Dr Jalaluddin Harun said to stay globally competitive, Malaysia can no longer rely on producing more products by volume and own equipment manufacturing (OEM), which is a reproduction or copies, as this is not sustainable and of less value.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has launched i-Services Portal with the aim to reduce the services sector’s trade deficit, says Chief Executive Officer Datuk Azman Mahmud. He said the deficit recorded in this sector widened to RM22.8 billion in 2017 compared with the RM18.9 billion recorded in 2016.

IPOH, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- In what is seen as the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, a smart convenience store which accepts only cashless transactions, opened its doors to the public in Ipoh. Called the 'Twenty4' smart department store located in a shopping mall here, the store also made its way into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR).

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) expects 60,181 jobs opportunities for Malaysia with the  new approved direct investments totalling RM80.2bil in the January-June period of this year. It said on Monday the investments in the services, manufacturing and primary sectors increased by 17.7% from  RM68.2bil in the previous corresponding period. The investments were from 2,346 projects.
