KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) looks forward to closer and regular engagements with the government on relevant programmes and initiatives under the 11th Malaysia Plan’s (11MP) 19 priority areas and the six policy pillars’ 66 strategies. FMM President Datuk Soh Thian Lai said the federation was optimistic that these economic targets and aspirations would be executed and achieved through close collaboration and consultation between the government and the business sector.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) --The Ministry of Primary Industries will focus on kenaf (hibiscus cannabinus) research and development activities with the aim to increase commercialisation of the commodity and its by-products. Its Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin said the move was to further develop the kenaf industry, now one of the new sustainable sources of economic growth for the country while helping those involved in the field.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- The Entrepreneur Development Ministry expects incentives for the food truck industry to be continued and included in the Budget 2019 to be announced on Nov 2. Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli said the government had identified huge opportunities in the food truck industry, which is most popular at the moment among others, and could positively contribute towards the growth of the economy in the future.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) – The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development (MED), which was set up on July 2, 2018, is formulating an inclusive and competitive National Entrepreneurship Policy following the tabling of the mid-term review of the 11th Malaysia Plan by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Oct 18. In a statement today, the ministry said this is a new agenda in the comprehensive and integrated development of entrepreneurs, with a focus on the B40 income group and social entrepreneurs and aimed at uplifting the people’s standard of living.

Ongoing support for SMEs crucial

Right incentives and policies can boost the bedrock of country’s economy

GROWTH is seen to be slowing. Earlier, Bank Negara lowered Malaysia’s economic growth forecast for 2018 to 5% from its earlier estimate of 5.5% to 6%. Be­tween 2018 and 2020, economists are expecting gross domestic product (GDP) growth to be in the range of 4.5% to 5.5%, against the ear­lier fore­cast of 5% to 6%. Amidst tightening measures and unfavourable external factors such as a full-blown trade war, ensuring a stronger SME sector is crucial in strengthening the economy.

SIPITANG, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- Sipitang will soon have its own development blueprint to drive its socio-economic development in tandem with the state’s long-term industrial plan. Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yussof Yacob said the district, which currently houses urea plants, could have been better with consistent and concerted efforts to develop the district. He stressed Sipitang has a strong potential to be another industrial region in Sabah with necessary infrastructures being in place.
