KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 (Bernama) -- The Economic Affairs Ministry will focus on developing new industries to drive the nation’s economy to a higher level and in tune with current developments. Its Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the generation of new growth sectors was one of the seven strategic thrusts in the shared prosperity economic model outlined by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in his keynote address in conjunction with the Pakatan Harapan government’s one-year anniversary yesterday.

ALOR SETAR (May 9): The ability of Kedah’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) Government to bring in foreign investments worth RM7.75 billion in the first quarter of this year, is among its huge accomplishments for the State so far. With this achievement, Kedah is on track to realise its RM10 billion investment target for the year, and the realisation of its proposed mega project, Kulim Airport (KXP), will put the State on foreign investors’ radar. Quoting the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA)’s report, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir said in 2017, Kedah had only received RM1.16 billion worth of investments from both domestic and foreign investors, while last year it recorded RM1.63 billion.

KUCHING, May 8 (Bernama) – The Sarawak Ministry of International Trade and E-Commerce will coordinate seven trade expositions, mostly in foreign countries in the second half of the year to exhibit and promote various products from Sarawak. Its minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said the ministry would arrange the participation of local entrepreneurs, among others in the Food and Hotel Myanmar 2019 in Yangon from June 5 until 7 which brings together all major players within the country’s food and hospitality industry.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Rakyat today announced a RM200 million allocation to assist small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the oil and gas service and equipment (OGSE) sector through a vendor financing programme.  Entrepreneur Development minister Datuk Seri Redzuan Yusof said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Bank Rakyat and Petronas will further improve the vendors' working capital and cash flow in completing contracts awarded by Petronas.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s economy reached a new height of RM1.45 trillion in 2018, at current prices, after a rebasing exercise from base year 2010 to 2015, said the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM). In a statement, Chief Statistician Malaysia Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin said consequently, the Gross National Income (GNI) per capita registered RM43,086 in 2018, approximately US$10,043.

PUTRAJAYA (May 3): Government-linked companies and Government agencies may apply for the RM5 million Malaysia Social Innovation Fund (MySI) between May 1-31, said Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC). In a statement today, the Ministry said the MySI programme is aimed at improving the people’s wellbeing, especially the B40 group, via the sustainable implementation of innovative applications of local research and development (R&D) technology projects.

KUALA LUMPUR: Kementerian Kewangan akan mengekalkan unjuran pertumbuhan ekonomi negara sebanyak 4.9 peratus bagi tahun ini, meskipun Indeks Pengurus Pembelian (PMI) Pembuatan Nikkei bagi Malaysia menunjukkan kemungkinan pengembangan 5.2 peratus untuk tahun ini. Menterinya Lim Guan Eng berkata kementerian itu menyambut baik bacaan PMI terbaru bagi Malaysia itu, yang menokok ke tahap tertinggi dalam tempoh tujuh bulan pada 49.4 mata pada April 2019 daripada 47.2 mata bulan sebelumnya.
